Rick Baraff is the very definition of a free spirit. He is a person who thrives on adventure, on taking it to the limit, on exploration. This is just part of the reason he fits in so well with the One True Vine team. The other would be his spectacular photography, videography and writing skills.
Rick is responsible for documenting some of our greatest adventures as a team, whether that is in the kitchen or hiking up the side of an active volcano. If we are there, he is there, capturing the moments to share..
What is the best thing about being a photographer for One True Vine?
The food! No, the wine! No, the food. Okay, it’s the total adventure that is exploring the amazing places around the world where Layer Cake, If You See Kay, and Cherry Tart come from. It’s a photographer’s dream to go to so many diverse places with such diverse terroir, culture, and visual flavor.
Do you have a favorite recipe in this volume?
Mariano’s Meatballs. Mmmm. They’re so simple yet richly complex. All of the different meats that go into these tasty gems create layers of texture and savoriness.
What is your favorite pastime?
I compete in a unique sport called Adventure Racing. It’s a team sport, which combines mountain biking, trail running, kayaking, and map & compass navigation into grand, multi-discipline events that are held in some pretty wild places. That and Michigan football. Go Blue!
Tell us one thing people would never guess about you.
People would never guess that I love comic books and have a huge collection.
If you could have one super power, what would it be?
I’d love to have super speed! As you can see by my other answers, I love to travel and go to exotic places. Super speed would be a lot of fun. You could also get quite a lot accomplished in a day and it would be great to save on plane tickets and gas, too. And, yeah, I could do some heroic stuff along the way.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and could eat only three meals until you the day you die, what would they be?
Fresh grilled salmon (if I’m on an island, why not take advantage!). Lamb burger and fries. And peanut butter and jelly. Who can ever get sick of PB&J?
